How Sage Oasis was born

Anita and Harley inherited this amazing place from Sam, Anita's should-have-been childhood sweetheart to last a lifetime. Anita caught Sam's eye when they were sophomores in high school, but as Sam put it, he felt he had been dismissed when she shook his hand after a dance and said thank-you. They met again in their mid-fifties through Match.com and sparks flew quickly into what Anita describes today as the love of her life. Sadly, it was short-lived. Sam passed from cancer in 2012, leaving the place to Anita and Harley. Harley sent Anita Luka from heaven in 2022 to take over as our therapy, camp crier, greeter.

As steward for the past 12 years, Anita has had a long-term interest and commitment to do the right thing by this earth we call home. The right thing turned out to be the development of permaculture gardens, moving toward energy efficient power systems, sustainable, energy-efficient alternative building methods, and offering it as a place of healing, learning, rest and relaxation for others wishing to find the "sage" within us all; the "knower" of right action.

Anita attempts to honor her Native ancestral roots in caring for the land. A member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, Anita is happy when interest and availability allow, to share some historical background and perspectives of the original caretakers of this land, the Salish, Kootenai and Pend’Orielle peoples, or as in the Indigenous languages, the Selish, Ksanka and Qlispe. Through emphasizing intuitive and permaculture gardening, and low footprint alternative building methods, Anita’s vision is for Sage Oasis to evolve as a model of sustainable and restorative living practices, and to eventually serve as a learning center for these technologies. She is always seeking and asking the Universe to bring the younger energy to help make it all a reality. Contact Us!
